Follett Teams Gear Up for Sweet 16

WESTCHESTER, IL, Mar 21, 2017 – March Madness excitement continues to build with the quick approach of the tournament’s next round - the Sweet 16 - this week.  Follett Higher Education Group is proud to learn that many of our partner schools are still on the road to the Final Four in the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments… Congratulations!

In addition to rooting from the sidelines, Follett teams are gearing up to support fans as their favorite teams go head to head with the best in basketball. To help amplify tournament excitement, Follett has already begun launching celebratory emails and delivering new merchandise in-store and online. Meeting the demands of eager fans and making sure Follett-managed stores are ready with the right products at the right time requires weeks of special planning and coordination among Follett’s General Merchandise, eCommerce, Marketing and Store teams.

Here’s a peak into the behind-the-scenes action:  In preparation for each game, Follett’s General Merchandise team coordinates with campus stores and the eCommerce team to organize and prepare all of the available basketball merchandise.  From there, the eCommerce team loads images and product information to eFollett sites, while making sure it’s easy for customers to find what they need. Following a big win, championship banners and products are activated, social media and email support is launched, and store teams eagerly anticipate the excitement and additional traffic into the campus store.

With the extra traffic comes a lot of extra work for Follett campus store teams. No sweat – team members are ready to help their campus community celebrate. Mark Glenn, store director at the Follett-managed JMU Bookstore where they recently celebrated the 2016 NCAA Division I Football Championship, shared his perspective on the campus store’s role in big athletic events:

For an important, exciting school event, the bookstore’s role is to keep the excitement going by having the products the customer wants. We had national championship merchandise in our store the day after the win.  Customers were lined up at the door that morning. They were excited and happy to support JMU and wear the purple and gold national championship merchandise to celebrate.
