MCHENRY, IL, Jun 26, 2017 – In a joint Follett and Baker & Taylor contribution, we’re proud to have recently donated more than 2,000 new books to the Astros Foundation Literacy Bus. The bus, launched this past January, is a mobile interactive vehicle aimed at encouraging family reading in Houston-area communities.
The Foundation, along with Phillips 66 and the Houston Independent School District (HISD), partnered to send the Literacy Bus on the road to distribute books to children in need in grades K-5. The bus makes weekly stops at elementary schools, community centers, summer day camps and city-owned softball/baseball parks across Houston. These parks serve more than 1,200 Houston-area children each year.
The Foundation was thrilled with the huge donation from Follett and the kids who receive the books are delighted in that they get to take them home! The bus gets replenished monthly with used books from “The Friends of the Houston Public Library” charity organization.
Great work by all involved in getting the books delivered to the Astros Foundation. Follett continues down the road of increasing literacy and encouraging the joy of reading for kids across America. Learn more about the Astros Foundation.
