Follett Expands Presence in Western Canada with Exciting New Partnership at the University of Regina

WESTCHESTER, ILL., May 6, 2021 – Follett, the largest campus retailer in North America, announced a new partnership with the University of Regina, which went into effect early March 2021.  This is the first campus store for the retailer in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.  Follett proudly serves more than 40 institutions across Canada.

“The University of Regina is pleased to partner with Follett on a more sustainable business model for our campus store which will provide students with more service options at lower prices,” said John Smith, associate vice-president of student affairs at the University of Regina. “The transition to a Follett-managed store has been a smooth one, and we are looking forward to students and faculty members seeing improved service, selection, pricing, and delivery platforms in an area critical to our teaching and learning enterprise.”

As today’s leader in campus retail with more than 140 years of industry experience, Follett is a trusted partner with more than 1,100 campus store locations across the U.S. and Canada.  The company first entered the Canadian market in 1990 and has experienced steady growth in campus partnerships.  Follett’s focus on building and adapting solutions to meet the unique needs of Canadian institutions has played an important role in this growth. Now in its third month of partnership, the University of Regina is the latest Canadian institution to benefit from Follett’s course materials affordability programs, investments in systems and technology, and commitment to innovative retail.

“Follett is honored to have the trust and partnership of the University of Regina,” says Mike McEneany, vice president of sales and marketing at Follett.  “We are committed to delivering a world-class retail environment with a focus on serving the campus community and driving student success.”

Roe McFarlane, president of Follett Higher Education, is thrilled to be expanding the company’s services to another Canadian institution.  McFarlane originally hails from New Brunswick, Canada.

“I’m proud to be a part of a company that is transforming campus retail in Canada and elevating the higher education experience for Canadian students,” McFarlane stated.  “Follett looks forward to working with our partners at the University of Regina and sharing our leading-edge approach to campus retail.”

With Follett, University of Regina students can expect better access to even more affordable course materials.  The company’s robust used book assortment, for example, offers students a 25% savings compared to purchasing new. In addition, Follett’s first-of-its-kind text rental program saves students up to 80 percent compared to purchasing new.  During the 2020-2021 academic year, Canadian students in Follett’s network have saved, to date, more than $1.8 million by participating in the text rental program.

Follett’s leadership in higher education’s digital transformation means University of Regina students will also find significant savings through the company’s digital offerings, like eBooks and digital courseware.  This academic year, Canadian students across Follett’s network have saved $2.3 million by choosing digital options.

“We know that when students have affordable access to course materials, they perform better in class.  Our course material programs will give Regina students more options at lower costs, ultimately setting the stage for better academic outcomes,” says Jennifer Hatton, Follett’s executive vice president for retail operations and course materials solutions.

Faculty at the University of Regina will also experience a more robust and seamless course materials process, with even more freedom to choose the materials that best fit the class curriculum.  Through Follett’s innovative academic tools like Follett DiscoverTM, faculty will have access to more than 6,000 publisher partners offering a range of course material choices, including digital options and open educational resources (OER).

Regina students, faculty, staff and community members can also expect an enhanced product assortment at the campus store, elevating the University’s brand and delivering products needed for academic success.   And, thanks to Follett’s multi-year $50 million investment in its ecommerce platform, Regina’s online shoppers will experience an upgraded ecommerce experience supported by today’s leading technology.

The full breadth of Follett’s products and services can be found by visiting the store’s new ecommerce site, ureginacampusstore.com.

“At Follett, we’ve always made it a priority to understand the challenges of our Canadian partners and deliver the right solutions for their students, faculty and staff,” says Stacy Zapko, Follett’s vice president of retail operations.  “We look forward to extending that same service to the University of Regina while building strong and enduring relationships on campus.”
