Follett Challenge Reveals Semifinalists, People's Choice Winners

WESTCHESTER, IL, Feb 13, 2015 – The fourth annual Follett Challenge - a contest that highlights and rewards the most innovative K-12 programs that teach 21st century skills to students - officially launched in October of 2014.

Since then, Follett has received 113 entries from schools around the country, all showcasing their unique programs that exemplify innovation in education.

To enter the Follett Challenge, applicants must demonstrate how their school's program is preparing students for the demands of the 21st century and complete the entire online application, which includes a 3-5 minute video about their program.

People's Choice Winners

Ten $8,000 prizes in Follett products and services are being awarded to these schools, whose video submissions received the highest number of votes from the public:

  1. 8,207 votes: Valley Stream UFSD 24 from Valley Stream, New York
  2. 8,513 votes: Goffstown High School from Goffstown, New Hampshire
  3. 8,671 votes: Gering High School from Gering, Nebraska
  4. 8,717 votes: Oak Ridge Middle School from Marion, Iowa
  5. 8,791 votes: Echo Hill Elementary from Marion, Iowa
  6. 9,991 votes: Marist High School from Chicago, Illinois
  7. 10,398 votes: Burbank School District 111 from Burbank, Illinois
  8. 11,714 votes: Doss Elementary from Austin, Texas
  9. 13,360 votes: Vestavia Hills Elementary Central from Birmingham, Alabama
  10. 13,869 votes: Atlantic City High School from Atlantic City, New Jersey


These schools, chosen based on a rubric score from a panel of judges and the number of votes the submitted video received, will receive $30,000 each:

  • Elementary School Category: Park Glen Elementary from Fort Worth, Texas
  • Middle School Category: O'Neill Middle School from Downers Grove, Illinois
  • High School Category: The Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria from Astoria, NY

Follett's expert judging panel will select the grand prize winner from among these three semi-finalists. The grand prize winner will earn an additional $30,000, for a total for $60,000!

We'll reveal that grand prize winner on April 30, 2015.
